VANS RIDER PEDRO BARROS  & TONY HAWK TAKES OUT FIRST PLACE!

As the sun set on Vans BOWL-A-RAMA™ Bondi 2014, the crowd went wild to mark another day of amazing bowl shredding. Crowds of thousands gathered to celebrate the annual event’s 10th birthday and watch the world’s best skateboarders compete for a huge prize purse of AUD $80,000.

18 year-old Pedro Barros (BRA) blew judges away, winning the Vans BOWL-A-RAMA™ Bondi Pro Title, while the legendary Tony Hawk (USA) walked away with the revered Masters Title.

“On a personal level we all got to live a childhood dream of throwing a comp as close as we could get to replicating a Del Mar Skate Ranch competition. On a professional level, it was humbling to know just how much the community of Bondi and skateboarding value what we’re trying to do. We could not have arrived here without the fans, riders and sponsors. Having the support of Vans and Destination NSW, Red Bull, Penny Skateboards, Surf Dive N Ski, GoPro, Protec, OnePiece, Beach Road Hotel, Beach Burrito Company, Boardworld and Pretty Shady has allowed us to get here. Everyone showed us thanks yesterday and we hope that we reflected that back. We just celebrated our 10th birthday! Woohoo.” Chad Ford, Frontside Events Chad Ford.

There was no denying the heightened excitement at yesterdays epic battle as crowds watched in the action-packed arena, while tens of thousands around the world tuned in via the official event webcast (www.bowlarama.com.au), live ESPN broadcast and Vans Live 2.0 App.

“I’m very honoured to be here for the Vans BOWL-A-RAMA Bondi’s 10th Birthday, I have been part of the BOWL-A-RAMA family for 8 years and this year has been the best year yet by far.  Having Tony Hawk being part of the mix with us (as an original Bones Brigade Member) for the first time has been awesome and a blessing to the event. Looking forward to coming back next year!” Vans rider and skate legend Steve Caballero.

The shores of Bondi Beach, Sydney really turned it on to celebrate the competition in its tenth consecutive year. Vans BOWL-A-RAMA™ Bondi hosted a week dedicated to celebrating art, music and true skateboard culture. Presented by Vans, Surf Dive and Ski, OnePiece and Penny skateboard’s who have presented the ‘Festival of the Skateboard’ featured the Love+ Guts art show, Broken Bones, Vans BOWL-A-RAMA Bondi and Vans BOWL-A-RAMA Bondi afterparty.

“This event grows every year and we continue to raise the bar by flying out world-famous skateboarders to compete alongside local talent.” Vans Australia General Manager Ben Hapgood.

To mark the decade, Tony Hawk joined fellow ‘Bones Brigade’ legends Mike McGill, Steve Caballero, Lance Mountain and Nicky Guerrero as a BOWL-A-RAMA™ alumni.

With ever-growing crowds and the consistent return of the world’s best skateboarders, BOWL-A-RAMA continues to confirm its reputation as the premier core skate series in the world.
