why not start off the new year with a raging backyard pool party? because it sets the standard very high for things to come in the following year. did team goon / punk rock skateboards give a shit? hell no! they raised the bar for skate party sessions in 2004 this last saturday (january, 10th). turns out that the milk mans ninth birthday was the perfect opportunity to not only introduce the new line of skateboards from prs but to throw up a balls out backyard pool party and celebrate a young rippers birth!

the agenda was clear. brad at team goon had every intention of making sure that every person had a full tilt good time. he started with an empty pool, added in about 6 kegs of beer, a shit-load of food, invited about 200 hundred people and topped it off with live bands. sounds good, right? hell yes!

with kegs flowing bam bam and i got there as early as possible, only to show up with a crowd of pool junkies already tearing the square apart. this was not your typical group of skaters. rippers aging from 9 to 45 were hell bent on getting runs in and each one had their own lines and style. it was eye candy for those of us who chose to lurk on the coping sidelines.

as the day drew on more and more and more and more people showed up. our so-cal, premium dj, caesar, was spinning classic, hard to find punk vinyl all night long. crazy seeing little kids and their parents rocking out to the same ancient vinyl tunes, some even skating the pool together at the same time.

with the crowd in place and the party well underway it was time to unleash the bands. ladies and gentlemen, introducing…the diffs! wait a fucking second, these are kids! literally! the drummer is something like 12 years old. and they fucking rock! i kid you not (pun intended), they have talent far beyond their years. not only did they cohesively pump out classic punk covers but they belted out their own, unique tunes as well. this was the time when PRS announced it’s new step child – red alert skateboards. good luck guys, sounds kick ass to me.

next up was the skulls. not quite teenagers, but rocking like it is their life, which it is. the performance was top notch, classic punk entertainment. these guys are true showmen and proved it throughout their set. it’s hard to believe that with music this loud and this aggressive that the cops didn’t show. a true testament to people who take the time to communicate with their neighbors.

Party Montage
all in all, i could not have asked for a better saturday unless i had skated with my fellow disciples on the blitz rather than working on the house or that j.ed had slugged a few back with me. alas, i was more than entertained with the prime party that was thrown and raging with some of my all-time favorite skate/party rats. i love you all!!!

keep your ears tweaked as the next team goon party and concrete disciples bomb drop are both already in the works. looks like 2004 might just be a good year.

bam bam scored some pretty good photos and the video of reul riding the slide. check them out and see what your next party could look like.
