10th Annual SkateFest in Annandale, VA.

Skatefest 2016 presented by Gatorade, Papa Johns, DK Skate,
Fairfax Surf Shop and Fairfax County Park Authority / Wakefield Skate Park
FAIRFAX, Va., June 6, 2016 — Skateboarders from Virginia, Washington D.C. , Maryland and other surrounding states will travel to Wakefield Skate Park in Annandale, VA.  June 24 and 25, 2016 to participate in the 10th Annual SkateFest/Skate for a Cause. The festival raises money for Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C and celebrates National Go Skateboarding Day. SkateFest has activities for all ages, including a skateboard competition, Sk8 for a Cause and family festival. The event features hundreds of national and local sponsors. Major Sponsors include Gatorade/ Pepsico, Papa Johns Pizza, Fairfax County Park Authority, DK Skate, Fairfax Surf Shop.
SkateFest is a two-day event with over $25,000 in prizes. Starting with preliminary rounds of the competition on Friday. The two main festival events are held on Saturday. Skateboarders of all ages and all skill levels will kick off Saturday by participating in Sk8 for a Cause to raise money for Children’s National. Sponsored participants will skate a check-pointed route through Wakefield Skate Park receiving free prizes as they ride along the course. This year Woodward Action Sports Camp will provide the skater who raises the most money in sponsorships with a free trip to Woodward Skate Camp in Pennsylvania, an experience valued at $1,300.
After Sk8 for a Cause, the skate competition and festival will begin. The competition holds 5 different events. Spectators and skaters are welcomed to participate in the live auctions and buy raffle tickets to help the hospital as well.
There are many opportunities for skaters to win over $25,000 in prizes! Back for this year is “$hred for Bread” sponsored by Papa John’s Pizza of the National Capital Area. This is a separate street skating contest for CASH PRIZES. 1st place will receive $500 +FREE Pizza for a year, 2nd place $250 + Free Pizza for 6 months, and 3rd place $100+ Free Pizza for 3 Months. 
Previous SkateFest events have featured hundreds of participants ranging in age from 5-50. More than $35,000 has been raised for Children’s National through the festival’s philosophy of kids raising money for kids. The festival will be packed with music, food, family-friendly activities, vendors and thousands of dollars in prizes and giveaways. The festival also gives skaters a chance to showcase themselves and even try out for the Fairfax Surf Shop skate team.
The preliminary rounds of the skateboard competition will take place Friday, June 26, 2015.  4 p.m. – 8 p.m. with registration beginning at 3 p.m. at Wakefield Skate Park. Sk8 for a Cause check-in will begin at 11 am. on Saturday, June 27, 2015.
