Pipes of the L.B.C.

Word of mouth is a strong form of communication. Sometimes it spreads like wildfire as it did with the surfacing of these humongous pipes in Long Beach CA. One day the ends get cut off the pipes and the next weekend every skater
in the Southland has heard the rumors. “Get there soon, their gonna be gone quick.”

At first I wasn’t too excited about skating these things, they just sounded to big to pump. Then the winds blew to me the fact that Lance had dropped in and did a rock n’roll in one of the cut in half ones. That was it! I had to see this scene for myself. With very little info about the pipes other than the fact they could be spotted relatively easy I set out to find them on my way to ASR and I talked Eric Nash into joining in on the session with me.

With the clues I had and the size of these pipes I had found them within about 20 minutes. This was our lucky day as it was a Sunday and the owner of the property wasn’t there. The Security guys quickly informed us that we’d have to leave (wink) (wink) if any more people showed up or we got hurt. The owner would usually call the cops immediately.

We immediately began pumping for our lives to try to get some speed. 17 foot transitions in a full pipe aren’t easy to work without some speed to start with. By the time we were getting close to 9 o’clock (the vert line) the thighs were aflame.

We threw a few photos down before we high tailed it out of there. This was definitely a once in a lifetime ride. For all those who rode the pipes you know what I mean. I hope you enjoyed the ride as much as we did.
