The Tony Hawk Foundation has now reached an incredible $2-Million in total fundraising for skateparks in low-income communties across the U.S. That’s a lot of ‘crete for the kids. Cheers to Tony, all the hardworkers at the THF, and of course, the kids with shiny new parks!

Skateboarding legend’s nonprofit organization hits milestone in charitable giving.
Vista, CA (12/12/07) — The Tony Hawk Foundation Board of Directors voted today to award 29 grants worth $255,000 for the construction of new pubic skateparks in low-income communities across the U.S. This series of grants and a special Pledge Drive in October that raised $60,500 for the Compton, California skatepark project brings the Foundation’s total funding of public skateparks to more than $2-million dollars.
The latest grant-award recipients were selected from a pool of 78 applicants, and brings the total number of Tony Hawk Foundation grants to 365.
Since 2002 the Foundation has been working with public officials and skatepark advocates to advise them on their skatepark projects and to provide funding for skateparks in low-income areas.
At the Foundation’s fourth-annual Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground Stand Up For Skateparks fundraiser in October, a special Pledge Drive earned $60,500 for the Compton, California skatepark project. Tony visited Compton City Hall in November to present the Pledge Drive check to members of the City Council. Combined with a $10,000 grant awarded in 2006, the total contribution from the Tony Hawk Foundation for the Compton skatepark comes to $70,500.

A charitable, non-profit organization, the Tony Hawk Foundation was established in 2002 by its namesake, professional skateboarder Tony Hawk, to promote and provide funds for high-quality public skateparks throughout the United States—with an emphasis on the word “quality.” Since then, the Foundation has awarded $2,051,984 to 365 communities. The Foundation focuses on working with local officials and grassroots, community-based organizations that plan to hire designers and contractors with strong experience designing and building skateparks.
The Tony Hawk Foundation was established by a gift from Tony Hawk. Its directors raise additional funds through events, industry donations, and continuing contributions from Tony and other entities.
