Transworld Skateboarding is RIP

Written by

Former Transworld Photog and Editor Dave Swift wrote this about it this evening:

Sad news today hearing that @transworldskate will no longer be printing magazines after 36 years. I was at The Del Mar Skate Ranch the day the very first magazine was delivered by #larrybalma in 1983, worked as a writer, photographer, videographer, assistant editor, associate editor and Editor In Chief of the magazine from January 1989 to October 2003. They were undoubtedly the best years of my career as a “Mag Guy” and The memories are so special to me. In all I shot 32 covers of the mag over those years and @ericdressen was the first in 1991 and @nblender was the last in 2003. Thanks to all the staff members I worked with over all those years, you guys were the best. #skateboarding #skateboardphotography#daveswiftphoto

Associate Editor deadhippie, Mackenzie Eisenhour, wrote this this afternoon:

May/June 1983 - March/April 2019. Issue 1 to Issue 397. I have been holding off on commenting on the sale of @transworldskate to AMI but today subscribers received notices informing them that the March/April issue of TWS will be the last. Without dwelling on the negative, I’d like to give a huge thanks to TWS and everybody I worked with over the past 15 years there. Being a part of the magazine that first drew me into skateboarding has been a huge honor. I’m told that TWS will continue producing digital content and I may still contribute to those efforts, however my role (and salary) as Associate Editor at the magazine ceases with this last issue. As some small consolation, it couldn’t have been a better cover to go out on. Top was @stevecaballero by Frank Hawk, bottom is @lancemountain by @aacostaa. Salutes to all who ever worked at the mag, contributed, or were readers. Skate and Create.
