Vans will transform the historic building at 950 Selden Street in West Midtown, into a cultural hub to celebrate art, music, action sports and street culture bringing Vans’ “Off The Wall” ethos to life. With an array of curated programming free to the community, this unique pop-up experience will be the largest House of Vans experience to date. Other pop-ups have included Paris, Montreal, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Mexico City, along with permanent House of Vans locations in Chicago and London.

“Detroit has a rich and eclectic history across music and art, along with a burgeoning skate scene that closely aligns with Vans’ own history and mindset,” said Brooke Burt, Vans’ Senior Manager of Lifestyle Brand Marketing. “It is truly an honor to bring House of Vans to life in Detroit alongside this incredibly creative and inspiring community.”

About Jefferson School:

Constructed in 1922, the Jefferson School is registered in the National Register of Historic Places citing its architectural significance. The three story building features a collection of common gathering spaces including a multi-purpose auditorium with a stage + back of house, a full-court gymnasium, expansive library, an indoor pool, and oversized corridors and stairs.

Invest Detroit and Midtown Inc have co-purchased Thomas Jefferson Intermediate School to reimagine the School as a central gathering place for a growing network of innovative organizations. Following House of Vans Pop Up, the School will become a place to explore imaginative and equitable strategies at scale while making a positive impact – socially and economically – on the lives of individual Detroiters.

About Community Push:

Detroit non-profit, Community Push, is the sum of a thriving skateboard scene that wanted more. In August of 2014, a group of skateboarders banded together with a single goal in mind, to give the city a multifunctional, alternative recreation facility to be designed, built and maintained by the community, for the community. Within a year's time, “The Wig” took a shape nobody saw coming. Over 100 volunteers donating thousands of hours of labor to creating a place to call home. A home to grow as skateboarders, builders and more importantly, as a community. From top to bottom, Community Push is here for the progression of skateboarding in the City of Detroit and beyond and continue to bridge the gap between skateboarders and their communities. For more info check out their website at: www.communitypush.org
