Transworlds 20th Anniversary Party
Corey Parks ignited the crowd like the old days at Nashville Pussy with 20 foot fireballs. I am sure the OC’s finest were freaking about this. (video)
Transworld celebrated it’s 20th anniversary last week at a private party at the Vans Skatepark in Orange CA. We secured our last minute invitations (Thanks Grant) and headed down to the party where Powerflex 5, The Hunns, The Faction, and Sten Gun.
First off we needed a drink which we quickly found out were free and upstairs. Get some Jaegermeister girls to puur you a shot down the ice scultpture (see photo of Ben Butler) to get your buzz on fast. By the time we made it through to the food and beverages, Steve Alba’s Band Powerflex 5 were already warming up the joint. It was kinda a late crowd because it was raining and LA/OC traffic was at it’s most glorious. Some skaters were shredding all the open
areas of the park the whole night long. Check out the haps in the combi for a bit until Duane Peters’ band the Hunns came in to scream and scorch up the joint with sweet punk rock. Corey Parks ignited the crowd like the old days at Nashville Pussy with 20 foot fireballs. I am sure the OC’s finest were freaking about this, but they let it go and everyone was stoked.
After they were done the Faction geared up and the skating raged on. Gavin and the band played a nice long set up there on the street course stage. Amused by their groupies they carried on with smiles, and classic skaterock style riffs. I was totally stoked to get to see them beacause I never thought they would play again.
Sten Gun, Lance Mountain’s band, offered many a classic cover punk tune to help bring to party to a close. Eventually they had to shut it down and they kicked us all out back in to the rain. Transworld stoked us all out with an original copy of the first issue, a collectors item indeed.
A extra large thanks to Transworld for 20 years of cranking out the mag. Thanks for putting up with skateboarders for 20 years. Thanks for the party. And thanks for sharing the night with such a large contingent of skateboarders. Could you ever imagine the 40 year anniversary party?
