Justin Sommer gewinnt mit Thomas Prochaska den New Kids on the Block Skateboardcontest 2012! Hirschi und Ben Watson sind das beste Team! Zum siebten Mal in Folge präsentierte die Skatehalle-Berlin mit Unterstützung von Iriedaily den New Kids on the Block Skateboardcontest. Unter dem Motto „Kids im Team mit Pros“ skateten die Berliner Nachwuchsripper gemeinsam mit den Berliner Skateboardprofis wie Valerie Rosomako, Jan Kliewer, Hirschi, Colin Mclean und vielen mehr den Contest.
Selten hatten die Judges beim New Kids on the Block Contest eine so eindeutige Entscheidung zu fällen wie in diesem Jahr. Der 1. Platz ging über jeden Zweifel erhaben an den 13 jährigen Justin Sommer, der seinen Run zusammen mit Thomas Prochaska bestritt. Beinahe stay-on schüttelte Justin souveräne Kickflips, Treflips und Hardflips am Doubleset aus dem Ärmel und sicherte sich damit von Allen das dickste Stuffpaket plus ein Jahr lang freien Eintritt in der Skatehalle-Berlin.

Das Interesse am New Kids on the Block Contest ist auch im siebten Jahr ungebrochen. Schon kurz nach Beginn der Anmeldung waren alle 50 Starterplätze vergeben und Wochen im Voraus konnte man den Nachwuchs bei intensiven Trainingseinheiten in der Skatehalle beobachten. Während man bei den älteren Teilnehmern schon fast von routinierter Wettkampfleistung sprechen könnte, waren auch viele junge Starter dabei, die eindeutig zum ersten Mal einen Contest bestritten. Einig waren sich alle Teilnehmer darin, dass es eine tolle Idee ist, seinen Run nicht allein, sondern gemeinsam mit einem Profi zu skaten. Das nimmt eine Menge Nervosität, man fühlt sich nicht ganz so verloren auf dem riesigen Streetparcours, kann von den Profis wichtige Tipps bekommen und hat vor allem eindeutig mehr Spaß zu zweit!
Das Paradebeispiel für gelungenes Teamplay lieferten Ben Watson und Hirschi, die in ihrem perfekt aufeinander abgestimmten Run demonstrierten, dass Skateboarding auch Mannschaftssport sein kann. Trotz eines eindeutigen Gewinners, gab es zum Glück keine Verlierer, denn neben der tollen Erfahrung, stand natürlich der Spaß am Skateboarding eindeutig im Vordergrund.
