Most guys hear the term "chick flicks" and have an instant auto-response toward the negative. The idea of having to sit through 104 + minutes of horrid merchant-ivory motion celluloid about syrupy romances and star crossed lovers surmounting all odds to end up hopelessly entwined in the grip of sweet matrimony is enough to unsettle the guts of all but the most whipped of men. Relax. There are women out there who don't really feel like dragging their dude's ass down to the megamulticineplex for an afternoon of pulp, popcorn, and pepsi. They'd be far more inclined to go skateboarding, and rather than guilting their boys into joining them, would proudly state, "sorry but this one is girls only." Jealous yet? You ought to be. These girls have secured a permanent weekly session at a highly exclusive venue, and even if you were able to find it, if you're a guy, you can't skate, dig?

Taking a break from her daily routine of doing her part to wear down that etnies skull bowl coping for all you wussy men who whine about it sticking out too far, Sonja Caudill punishes Dave's pool blocks backside.

The locale is a sweet backyard multi-bowl setup with a generous host in the person of one S.A.D. and the players range from seasoned veterans to young up and comers. At one of these closed weeklies, MRZ got the pass to document a strong contingent of the ladies crew in action, and wasn't surprised to find the level of the skating surging, and new ground being broken. The girls were stepping it up, pushing each other, and extending the depths of their collective game.
Candice Starin has been skating what...a year? Putting the metal to the pedestal on the road to excellence.

Session dynamics are key. Assembling a core group of riders of any gender will produce optimum results, and rather than a testosterone-fueled lesson in failed anger management complete with ugly vibes, board throwing, and one-upmanship, you are presented with a high energy scene, and everyone gets in on the act, fueling the fire. Thursdays belong to the girls, and they are taking full advantage of it, and generating some serious electricity.

Merideth coaches grom Haley Kindstrand through the drop, but as you can clearly see, the helping hand is not necessary...Haley has it all under control.
So there you have it. A brand new definition for the term "chick flicks". Photos of girls, skateboarding. I'm not recommending you men soften your stance on crappy movies such as Sleepless In Seattle, Driving Miss Daisy, or High Fidelity. But pay some respect to the ladies of skate. You know they are down, and these photos of them skating are cheaper for you to view than some bad film accompanied by stale popcorn, and much more fun to look at.
