Wretch Ear-Pollution Show
August 17th, 2004 21:19
Wretch LiveJune 25, 2004@the Majestic Ventura Theater, (Ventura, CA)

Coming to you live from the 805, WRETCH play loud, heavy music that kicks ass and gets the blood flowing.

That being said, I went to see WRETCH play on a Saturday night after work. I had heard form various sources about the release of a new album, so I was eager to hear the new songs. The lights dimmed, WRETCH took the stage and the mayhem began, Angelo has a sick voice, he can go from a growl to a full on scream, and has the lungs to hold the screams. With Pika on double bass duty, the set was blistering fast and heavy. With Javier playing bass and Vince on guitar, the band complimented each other well. Javier was rocking out his long hair whipping up and down as he played. While Vince's guitar shredded and wailed in perfect unison.

Javier & Pika

During one song I felt the floor shaking behind me, I figured the fans were just moshing and that's what I felt. I turned around and saw that a large group of fans along the barricade slamming it back and forth in time to the music. Since this was a local show the Ventura Theater security hadn't pulled the barricade all the way out, but there was a small gap for me to squeeze though and shoot. Seeing the barricade slamming back and forth really scared me, I didn't really know what to do, I couldn't get out from behind the barricade because I had to climb over one section, my only other option was to climb on the stage and hope that the security wouldn't get pissed at me for jumping onstage instead of going around. I figured I had a valid reason, so I waited for the fans to quit slamming the barricade, as soon as they did; I quickly scrambled onto a corner of the stage and watched the show from there. The security guards saw the barricade shaking and quickly put a stop to it. After that, WRETCH played some of their new songs, which were not as heavy, but more complex, with more aggressive guitar playing and just as good. It was a good show; if you are a fan of real metal music, not watered down trendy new metal, Wretch is worth it. Complex screaming guitars, intense drop tuned, heavy bass driven riffs, completed by Pika's skull crushing, heart stopping drums and Angelo's wicked screams of lyrical rage is what WRETCH brings to their live shows.
