No matter what you do everything involves some degree of risk. While no formula exists in a textbook for this; everything has a pretty even proportion of risk to reward. Let's take the computer you are viewing this on right now as an example. Going on the computer is relatively safe, and while the occasional person will suffer from carpal tunnel from excessive typing I do not believe a computer has ever been at fault for ending anyone's life. On the same note how fun is your computer really? Sure being able to communicate with someone halfway around the word instantly is pretty cool, but in the end staring at a screen full of pixels gets old after awhile.

Mosh pits can be alot of fun, alot more fun than staring at a computer in fact. With that higher level of enjoyment comes a higher level of risk. Here the pit got hungry and ate one of its participants. If you're lucky you have friends who will drag your unconscious body out of the mayhem
Eventually the question arises; When is the reward not worth the risk? Many have pondered this question, and at the end of the day no single answer can be found. The more conservative perfer a game of chess, or reading a book, to jumping in a pit, or riding a skateboard while others will be more than happy to risk life and limb for a few, brief moments of euphoria.

Some grow bored of the safe confines of a mini ramp, and take it to the next level with an ollie off the deck, and over the barrier. Thankfully in this case reward won over risk and all four landed on the floor.

Checking your "lamespace" can be kinda fun, but it can't even touch the feeling of snapping a lofty ollie on a skateboard.

alot more fun than a computer
Being the small town Ventura is you could easily reach the yacht club from warped tour in a matter of minutes. The more respected, affluent, and educated members of the community that attend such places may scoff at the sometimes barbaric, and violent practices of skaters, and concert-goers, but in the end the arteries will harden, the heart will give out, or a myriad of other health problems will end their life. When such illness occur the surviving friends and family may question; Is playing it safe all the time really worth it? You can take every precaution, check everything twice, and do everything right, but as Shakespeare said, "It seems to me most strange that men should fear,Seeing that death, a necessary end,Will come when it will come."

Vans employs security to keep the energetic crowds in line. Is this a necessary precaution to minimize risk, or a needless annoyance minimizing the reward? You decide.

Cigarettes and energy drinks, excessive danger to your health for some, breakfast of champions for others.

keeping it safe. good or bad?
Even writing this article is alittle dangerous. After discovering that I didn't write the standard, monotonous, ego-stroke article that is expected my audience may become dissatisfied, and launch an attack in the form of bulletin board trash-talking. Thankfully I thoroughly enjoyed writing this article, and could care less if no one enjoys it.

blunt to fakie

Considering Warped Tour is largely about music, here's to keeping it relative.
