Vans Warped Tour Ventura Ear-Pollution Show
July 12th, 2007 11:37
I showed up to Seaside park in Ventura Ca. around 10:15. After standing in line to get my pass for an hour six inches from some guy blowing smoke in my face and talking as loud as he could on his cell phone I got my pass and walked in. I walked pass the Trojan guy past all the vendor booths selling everything from Bob Marley t-shirts to gimmicky bracelets to five dollar cd’s of a band no one has ever heard of. Sometimes people would buy the cd’s just so the guy selling them who was on a pogo stick screaming into a megaphone would leave them alone. Of course no one actually listened to the cd’s but found it more entertaining to throw them like frisbees at unsuspecting people in the pit.

Ok...Can you see me? No ok meet me by the large group of people. Where? Just meet me over there you'll find me

I checked out the giant inflatable billboard which gave all the times that the bands were playing and since I decided all the bands I wanted to see were playing later I checked out the mini ramp. I grabbed a Lost energy drink and shot some photos of the skaters. Tim White from Homicide skateboards was there throwing down long grinds and smooth lines. Matt Boyster was on fire pulling huge airs and later in the day jumped off the ramp over the barrier and into the crowd. On the younger end of the skaters Curren Caples and Anthony Anaya ripped up the ramp. Curren blasted giant frontside airs sometimes over other skaters when the ramp got hectic. Anthony pulled heavy frontside 5050's bionic frontside airs and clean blunt to fakies. In the end Curren Caples won the mini ramp jam which is pretty impressive considering he was up against skaters over twice his age.

Wait I thought I was going over and you were going under

After watching the ramp for awhile I checked out Mike Vallely’s newest project Revolution Mother. They played right next to the ramp and had an amazing set. Revolution Mother plays a great blend of Punk and heavy metal. Once Revolution Mother ended their set I checked out Circle Jerks. They played an unreal show and maybe one of the best of the day. The crowd went nuts when they began Wild in The Streets, and pretty soon hundreds of people started chanting Runnin’ Runnin’.

Bassist of Revolution Mother check his fingers position premeditated?

Keith Mentioned before their set that he's partially blind and a diabetic regardless they played an amazing set.

The day progressed and Bad Religion prepared to play their set. As they began it seemed like everyone there rushed to their stage. I really got an idea of how many people were actually there when I finished taking photos and I tried to walk out of the crowd. After five minutes of walking straight back and still not able to break free of the massive crowd watching Bad Religion I began to wonder if there was even an end. BR played an amazing set and were a definite crowd pleaser. They played a wide variety of songs from all their different albums, and had one of the biggest pits of the day. One of the funniest things about shooting photos is anything someone throws that doesn’t hit the stage hits you. I got hit with everything from coke bottles, water bottles, ice, shoes, t-shirts, even beach balls. As I was shooting photos of BR I looked over and saw someone’s wallet hit the ground. Must have sucked for whatever person owned that wallet.

Graffin of Bad Religion

In the end I had a great day and I enjoyed all the bands weather they were punk or not. Thanks to Vans for throwing a great event and to all the people who helped put this together. See you next time.
