Saturday at Skatelab will be remembered for a long time. Burning Tree records Threw down the most Punk Rock show I have been to in quite a while (Since Friday night at least when I got to see Duane Peters and the Hunns @ Juvee) . This one had way more punkers than skaters though and the mohawks were flying! I find it totally enjoyable to wander drunkenly around an all ages punk fest and be that old guy ‘what’s he doing here?’. Well I was drinking there so fuck off wee ones!
Much to my delight before we even made it in Mike V. and the Rats were rattling the neighbors’ windows. Unfortunately we went to the front door first, got turned around, and by the time we entered the back gate they were done. Oh well, I turn to my left and there it is… the BEER GARDEN @ SKATELAB!… and the VARLA GIRLS!!!! Rachel the Varla publisher quickly introduced me to several of the beautiful ladies and we toasted our new friendship with a couple Budwiesers from the kegs next to their booth. After a couple warm up beers I decided to mosey on into the club (i.e. back half of Skatelab), I ran into Brad from Team Goon and we ended up talking the night away (off and on) about all the punk stuff he’s getting into and pools, and skateboarding. I probably mentioned the fact I was wishing I could skate about a million times to anyone who woul d listen and Bart was only my first victim.
The Team Goon crew was enjoying a nice bowl session that was relatively quiet except for them. The Punk rock bands kept playing their short sets. Eventually Chix Pack drew me down to the pit for a closer look. Yup, that was a new bass player since Pink Motel. As you would turn around in the pit you just find yourself surrounded by young punkers lined up to the rafters on all the ramps and the side of the stage and in the pit. What a glorious sight it is!

Awhile later I was back out drinking some more beer and talking to anyone with an ear. Old friends and new were arriving at a fantastic rate, this lead to even more drinking. I was in a great frame of mind. A few trips back to my truck for extra beers were each a little adventure. The neighbors freaking on the mohawks, the kid next door loading a bb-gun or rifle, punk girls pee-ing the bushes, Skatelab employees trying to keep everything in control, etc. So fun, and soooo funny!
Beer kept pouring in and the night lasted quite a while. Me and Barfly are quite a handful when we’re drunk in public, and this was no exception I’m sure (I think I’m sure). Now we’re even more deadly with these digital cameras as long as we can keep from breaking them. We enjoyed several more band like Ill Repute and the Nardcore Allstars through the night. About 10 o’clock I was done and nearly depleted of all the beer I had bought, so I bailed out and cautiously drove back home through Box Canyon (I’m stupid).
