Thrasher Magazines 25th Party
When you step through the velvet ropes to get into a Thrasher party you just don’t know what to expect. I immediately knew all of it was going to be good when Eric Dressen and Bart Saric are the first people to greet at the front door. On slate for the evening was a slew of killer bands (Manic Hispanic, The Adolescents, TSOL), The King of the Road DVD premiere, friends, drunks, video games, and if you unfortunate enough to be wearing a Green t-shirt getting bounced out on your face.
We got situated in a booth at the downstairs bar just before the ‘Specials’ kicked in. They call getting a Bud Light between 8 and 9 p.m. a fucking special!! That’s the only beer IMO that mankind should be ashamed of brewing. I’ll pay a dollar more for a decent beer anytime. I don’t want to get back to the point just yet, but the cheapest beer in the joint (aside from the VIP room probably being free) was $5 for the… yup you guessed it Bud Light. $1 more and Heinekens were in order. This meant the green in your wallet was going to go fast. A few brave souls pulled out the plastic and miraculously were thrown out right after closing out their tabs…. Hmmmm, something fishy going on here….
Now back to the nights festivities, The DVD came up on the plasma screens on the wall and we tried watching between all the heads the popped up in front of us, but we all remained cheerful. It must have been KOTC coming through with some smuggled in chicken wings for MRZ! That was real slick and probably kept him from the bulk of the pain that all the booze was sure to cause a little later. Oh, the DVD! From what I saw dudes were ripping a wide and refreshing variety of terrain based on the competition outlined by Thrasher. “Ride a Tree” for instance! But, in the sparce material I managed to catch I also saw a low of scoottering and Biking. Phelps was lurking around about this time making sure the revelers were aware he was in the house.

The security guys were a riot to seen in action. Most of them did not understand the madness that was going down and here was an example of Gabby of Manic Hispanic telling the security guys that everything was ok ....they did not believe him though. - Team Goon
The night starts to have a little change from this point. The Show starts in the concert room and quickly Manic Hispanic is surrounded by a tightly packed pit and the mayhem pedal was jammed into the metal! Security guards didn’t know what the fuck to do, except they ended up blocking most of the view of the bands when they were all 5 jockey meat heads standing shoulder to shoulder in front. Once the Chief Concrete Disciples Bartender Barfly got everyone primed getting a massive round of Beer and Shots for us the grown men reverted to their childhoods for a long night of slam dancing in the pits.

The Adolescents are now on and the mayhem started right up again. During the song "Rip It Up" a dude got pushed by a security guard, the guy came right back at him full throttle and pushed the security guard back hard. All of us in the Concrete Disciples lounge were yelling our heads off...the security guy got rocked. Right after that all the security guys rat packed him and threw him out. - Team Goon
The Adolescents came on after a brief intermission where security re-evaluated the situation. The band got the show rolling again and the same level of mayhem picked right back up. Fuckin Rockin!

TSOL was now on after a brief beer break. - Team Goon
Between Adolescents and TSOL is when things we getting out of hand at all areas of the joint. The booze had been flowing a long time now and heads were twisted. TSOL came on and the security goons were blockin the whole stage. I couldn’t see shit so I went to the bathroom for some relief. On the way back to the stage the AZ crew, whom we had the great pleasure with skating with that afternoon hi-jacked me for a while and we had a great time shooting the shit. Not only that, but I met Norcal Local (one of the bulletin Boards most underground Shit-Stirrers) only I don’t think he knew I knew ;), probably until a little later… But that wasn’t the only revelation revealed to me that day. I dragged myself back to the band room and the pit has gotten so wide the the place is looking half empty. I pull up a booth and for the rest of the show I chilled with KOTC Kyle in the back of the club. Once the band stops and we can talk some more everyone starts asking where ‘so and so’ is and we quickly learn that tons of our peeps are thrown out to the streets. No wonder why the end of the show seemed empty. TSOL, Adolescents, and Manic Hispanic were fucking awesome. I loved it. Thanks Thrasher Mag for more then just that night, but for ruling everything you’ve done for skateboarding.
Rock on bitches!
