Blanche - If We Can't Trust the Doctors Ear-Pollution CD
July 30th, 2006 20:46
Yeah, so this album is about 2 years old. Hey, what can I say? I don't necessarily get around to listening to every single cool album that comes out right exactly when it comes out. Besides, I don't see you writing about anything, so there.

Blanche... what can I say about this album? It is definitely in it's own little category. Have you ever heard of Country-Goth-Folk? Me neither until about half an hour ago. This is one interesting album, and that's why I am writing about it. Two years after it came out. I guess I will slip into the old reviewer's trick of comparing a unique albums to older cool albums that I already know about. There are moments that remind me of the late, great Geraldine Fibbers, and then there are other moments that remind me of a sort of Country version of Mazzy Star. Actually, Mazzy Star wasn't without its folky moments, so that's a damn good comparison if I do say so my damn self. And both Hope Sandoval (of Mazzy Star) and Tracee Lee Miller (of the band that I am supposed to be writing about right now) are pretty easy to get a big ol' crush on, as they are both cute as all get-out and sing real purdy.

Wow, I think I managed to write an entire paragraph without actually talking about the album in any sort of detail. So, here are some random words that may or may not give you an idea of what this album sounds like: weepy pedal guitars, banjo, footstomp, deep fried hushpuppies, okra, catfish, collard greens.

Bottom line? If you are into country you should check this out. If you are into folk, you should check this out. If you are into music, you should check this out. This is a very pretty listen, and there ain't nothing wrong with that.
