Wolfmother is a trio from Australia that channels all the bands you grew up listening to on your long haired uncle's turntable. Their sound is somewhere between Deep Purple and Sabbath, and if they were around 30 years ago, they would be a household name right now.
Dimensions is a 4 track EP that is a sort of warm up release in advance of the full length. The eponymous first track opens with Andrew Stockdale's high pitched wail and punchy rhythm, and by the time the chorus rolls around you are hooked. Mind's Eye (track 2) starts off down tempo and moves into this keyboard driven crescendo that reminds me of Led Zeppelin. Love Train's opening bongo deal sounds a lot like Sympathy for the Devil, and there's nothing wrong with that. I bet that instrumental Track 4 will be used in a skate video of some sort.
This EP comes with a couple of videos too, so all in all it's a really good deal. I also heard that they rule live, so if they happen to be in your town, you should check them out. I can't wait for the full length.
