I love the Beaver (state)
Roy Starin
Hello fuckers and fuckettes. It is a new day, and I am fully recovered from my Portland trip. Portland is one of the best cities in this country, and if it didn't rain so much I would probably be packing up the U-Haul as we speak. If you have a hankerin' for some cheap grub and good bloody marys whilst in Portlandia, go check out My Father's Place. Just ask somebody, and they will give you directions. This place is the shit, and it is a couple of blocks from Burnside, so you can get your shred on. Oh, and if you wanna see some busted ass strippers, go to Dino's. I needed some bleach for my eyes after that joint. I went to see High On Fire at Alex's Bar a few weeks back, but I forgot to bring the camera. So here is your review: They rocked. One of the opening bands was pretty hilarious, actually. All metal posturing and shit. You see, it's a fine line between cool and corny when it comes to the old metal performance, and they were just a couple too many rockstar poses and middle fingers on the wrong side of that line. But whatever, someone probably ate it up. High On Fire came on and played some stuff that sounded like Godflesh and almost lost me. I was beginning to wonder what the dudes at Concussion were all moist about, but then they kicked it into gear. So yeah, count me in as a fan. There were two other bands on the bill, but details are blurry so that will have to do. Aphex Twin just came out with a new album. Go get it and blow your mind out. Check this guy out. He is so nerdy that it's cool. I actually got to do some skating in Oregon over the weekend, despite the fact that it rained the whole goddamned time. The bonus to that was that I got to find out what skaters ride up there when they can't go to Newberg. There's some shit poppin off on the indoor tip that you must check out if you get the chance. One of 'em is this backyard garage bowl that is super fast, smooth and concrete. If you get the invite, you must accept. It ruled, and I am sure that you will be seeing photos of this thing being destroyed sooner than later. And of course there is always Burnside. I love Burnside. But I think that it's due for a makeover of the jackhammer variety. Some parts are showing their age, and others are not super useful. I bet I just pissed off a whole bunch of dudes just by saying that. I can still skate there, right dudes? So now that Oregon is out of the way for this year, Dollface and I need to decide where the summer skate trip will be. Hmmm, Colorado? the Midwest? East Coast? Cayman Islands? Decisions, decisions... Send me stuff!! raunchy@concretedisciples.com
