Hi! I'm back. I know you missed me, right? There's a lotta new music coming out, so let's talk about some stuff. Oh yeah, did you like that link I hooked you up with last week? Pandora rules. Everyone I know (like 4 people) can't stop talking about how cool it is to listen to at work and what not. You know what I get to listen to at work? Muzak, which features all the hits you love to hate by bands like Hall and Oates, Linda Ronstadt, and Bruce Hornsby and the motherfuckin' Range. Gotta love it.
Hmmm, let's start with Morrissey. You can say what you will, in my eyes the man can do no wrong. I know you can't be a hardcore tough guy and admit that you like Morrissey, so wait until you are alone until you put on Ringleader of the Tormentors. I promise I won't tell your bros.
Have I mentioned that I love heavy metal? I really did try to stop being such a hessian and grow up, but it didn't work. And that's a good thing, because bands like Mastodon are out there cranking out music that rules. If I could put that little head banging smiley face after that last sentence, I totally would. If you haven't gotten Leviathan, please start there. By the time that one sinks in you should be ready for their new album, due out this summer sometime.
The Flaming Lips are incredible. Just the strangest beautiful music there is. They have a new album called At War with the Mystics coming out next Tuesday or something. Which reminds me of one of their other releases. I have this Flaming Lips album, Zaireeka, that is 4 CDs meant to be played all at the same time. I have never been able to play it, because I have never had 4 CD players at my disposal. I did put 3 of them on at once, and it's possibly the strangest thing I have ever heard, with the exception of Ummagumma.
The best band to ever come out of Idaho is putting out an album this month, too. Built to Spill has taken a few years off since their last release, Ancient Melodies of the Future, so it's about damn time. I can't wait for them to tour. Definitely one of the best live bands around. So yeah, the new one is going to be called You in Reverse, and it's coming mid-April.
Also, there's new stuff by Guns N' Roses (is there any way that it can be good?), Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and for all you hippity hoppity dudes, Ghostface Killah. But let me end with some other stuff that I have been checking out. The first one is another rapper by the name of Lupe Fiasco. I know how much you all love the rap, but this guy skates, so he deserves a shout. I guess his first single is called Kick, Push and it's about being a skater. It's dedicated "to all his homies, grinding". Good enough for me, dude. The next band is called Love is All, and they pump out some high energy post punk surfy stuff. I have only gotten my hands on a couple of tracks, but I'm stoked already. I'll let you know what the album sounds like.
Damn, it's raining again! I hope it's dry in Portland, we are going up in a couple of weeks. I can't wait to skate some Dreamland stuff. Don't be jealous, it's probably gonna rain up there, too. Wish me luck, people.
Send me stuff!!
