That is Long Beach's unofficial slogan, and it totally fits. Let's see, what is there to write about today? How about some upcoming shows?
First off, the Mouse House is putting on some decent shows in the month of February. Social Distortion is doing it's usual annual thing, and they are playing multiple nights next month (the 1st, 22nd, and 23rd). If you haven't seen Social D by now, you must not want to. There's also Tiger Army (2/3), and X with Manic Hispanic (2/17&18).
$10 for a beer?
What else do I have here? oooooh! fuckin Brujeria at the Galaxy! Go check that out on the 8th. Try not to get your ass kicked by the jock bouncers, though.
check out my lifted truck, bro-brah
There's something called the British Invasion 2K6 happening out in San Bernardino on March 4th. Looks like somewhere around 30 punk rock bands, including The Adicts, GBH, Vice Squad, blah blah blah. Put it this way, if they are on your I-Pod hot rod, they are playing. Go skate some pools before the show for extra points.
limey bastards
Throw Rag. Alex's Bar, this Saturday night. Fat dude playing a washboard. Need I say more?
good drinks, bad parking
And lastly but not leastly, go check out The Muffs at Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa on February 4th. I will always have a soft spot for The Muffs. Kim Shattuck has one of the best screams in rock and roll. It's just perfect.
the muffs!
Also, Coachella is coming up at the end of April or something. I will fill you in on the line-up as soon as I know. I heard your mom's band is getting back together and touring, but that has yet to be confirmed. Oh yeah, the Arctic Monkeys are playing in LA in March. If you can get tix, go check 'em out. The music geeks are proclaiming these young Brits to be the "next big thing". More of a curse than a blessing, I know, but they are good. Hell, their album hasn't even dropped yet in the States, and they are selling out shows. I highly recommend them if you like stuff like The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, and any other "next big thing" band I can think of.
That's all I have energy for. And yeah, this list really only covers the Long Beach/ Orange County area, but that's where I live. So suck it. But really, if you want me to list any upcoming shows in your area in this column, send the info to me at raunchy@concretedisciples.com. See ya. |
